Janusz Majewski talked about his film Hotel Pacific
The Polish film was also interesting because of the presence of many
Czech co-creators, from the scriptwriter Pavel Hajný, cameraman Miroslav
Ondříček and costume designer Theodor Pištěk to a number of actors.
Majewski praised the making of the film. He recalled the aura of
friendship that was omnipresent during the shooting. “This aura led the
film to two Oscars,” he said, and added that since making Pacific Hotel
he has been able to speak Czech. Theodor Pištěk then pointed out that
Miroslav Ondříček was the reason he ended up in this film.
The film was shown at Finále in a digitalised copy. The final version
was approved by Ondříček, who liked the result of the film restoration
very much. He appreciated that he could see things that were not on the
original film strip. Janusz Majewski is also happy with the
reconstruction of his film. “I was told that the digital copy in this
state should last for seven hundered years,” he rejoiced.
